Swisscom has booked solid 9M revenue, EBITDA and profit growth as subscriber and volume expansion more than offset the price erosion in the telco’s domestic market. The telco booked turnover of CHF8.63 billion (USD8.94 billion) for the nine months ended 30 September 2014, up from CHF8.46 billion in the year-ago period, whilst EBITDA grew 3.8% year-on-year to CHF3.37 billion and net profits rose 6.0% to CHF1.35 billion. Price erosion in Switzerland accounted for CHF280 million, CHF125 million of which was attributed to lower roaming fees, but this was more than offset by an additional CHF363 million in turnover from additional subscribers. Mobile users increased 2.4% y-o-y to 6.499 million, 2.0 million of which were signed up to the cellco’s ‘NATEL Infinity’ unlimited packages, leading to a 94% increase in the volume of data traffic. Swisscom’s pay-TV service, meanwhile, continues to expand, with 1.125 million users at the end of September 2014 compared to 943,000 twelve months earlier. Elsewhere, Swisscom’s Italian broadband division, Fastweb, also saw growth, booking a 1.4% increase in turnover for the period to EUR1.23 billion (USD1.534 billion).
