Omnitel conducts tests of LTE-A

7 Nov 2014

Omnitel, Lithuania’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, has carried out tests of LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) technology in cooperation with Huawei Technologies. The TeliaSonera-owned company said it plans to launch LTE-A on a commercial basis once demand for 4G increases and when a wider range of compatible end-user devices become available in the market. Omnitel launched commercial LTE mobile broadband services in the downtown areas of Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Siauliai and Panevezys in April 2011, notes TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database. Since then, the network has been expanded to around 50 of the country’s largest towns and cities, providing 4G coverage to 70% of the population.
