Saudi Arabian cellco Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) has commissioned its long-standing vendor partner Nokia Networks to expand the scope of its existing 2G, 3G and 4G Time Division Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) and Frequency Division (FD)-LTE networks, while also managing Mobily’s network operations for a period of five years. The expansion contract will see Nokia deliver its Single RAN Advanced platform featuring its Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station for 2G, 3G and LTE. Further, Nokia Networks’ NetAct network management system will be deployed to monitor, manage and optimise Mobily’s networks, while Nokia’s systems integration, network implementation, care services, and competence development services will also form part of the overall package. In addition, Nokia will manage Mobily’s infrastructure in the central region of the Kingdom, which was previously served by other vendors, while also extending the TD-LTE network footprint in the region.
Mobily’s CEO Khaled Alkaf commented: ‘Our top priority is ensuring the best possible customer experience, even when our network becomes more and more complex due to multiplicity of network layers, especially when providing data services … Nokia Networks’ radio technology will help us expand our network capacity to provide further improved voice and data services for our customers.’
