Despite the arrival of two new competitors, Telenor Myanmar and Ooredoo Myanmar, incumbent telco Myanmar Post and Telecommunications (MPT) sold more than a million mobile SIMs in September, Mobile World Live writes. The state-backed operator signed a joint operating agreement with KDDI Summit Global Myanmar (KSGM) –a joint venture of Japanese firms KDDI and Sumitomo – in July this year, under which the latter would invest USD2 billion over the next ten years to modernise the telco’s operations in exchange for a share of MPT’s earnings. Since signing the deal, MPT has renewed its logo and improved its marketing efforts, expanded its call centre operations and launched new promotions and special tariffs.
