Danish telecoms company TDC and regional energy provider TREFOR have signed a strategic agreement which will allow the telco to offer its broadband products over TREFOR’s fibre-optic network in the Triangle region of Denmark, comprising the municipalities of Funene Billund, Fredericia, Vejle, Kolding, Middelfart and Vejen. TREFOR’s CEO Knud Steen Larsen disclosed that the strategic partnership is designed to significantly boost its competitive power in the region. The energy provider will retain ownership and responsibility for expansion of the fibre network, while TDC will take over operation of the infrastructure. The deal will help TREFOR to lower its operating costs, while TDC will gain access to more than 95,000 households and businesses in the Triangle region. Further, TREFOR’s 14,000 TV subscribers and 35,000 broadband users will be able to choose between signing up to TREFOR or TDC’s services; TV users will be offered the opportunity to transfer to TDC and its cable TV division YouSee from 2H 2015.
Carsten Dilling, CEO of TDC Group, said: ‘The agreement with TREFOR is a historic breakthrough for our desire to offer TDC and YouSee products on the fiber networks energy companies own. TREFOR – which has one of the most well-developed fiber optic networks in Denmark – [has opened its] fiber network for us, and we come with strong products for both residential and commercial markets to ensure competition for the benefit of customers and the market.’
