Ooredoo Maldives, the country’s second largest mobile operator by subscribers, has announced that it has successfully expanded coverage of its 3.5G network to 95% of the population, after completing a project announced in July. Under the network modernisation project, Ooredoo has introduced its HSPA+ network to 64 new islands to give its customers access to high speed data and an enhanced network experience. ‘We’re proud to announce that our ‘3G+’ network is now available to 95% of the Maldives population with the completion of the project,’ commented Vikram Sinha, CEO of Ooredoo Maldives, adding: ‘We have already started to see the difference that 3G+ has brought to customers in transforming their lives and helping expand knowledge through online education … Ooredoo will continue to be the partner that [helps] people achieve their aspirations.’ The firm says it will continue to expand and enhance its network, having already started by rolling out its LTE infrastructure to Kaafu Maafushi in August.
