Agcom proposes LLU rate freeze; Vodafone cool on FastWeb buy

16 Oct 2014

Italy’s telecoms regulator Agcom is proposing that local loop unbundling (LLU) rates for 2014 should be kept at the same level as the previous year, Radiocor writes. The watchdog has opened a consultation into its proposals, which would maintain the cost of accessing a local loop connection on Telecom Italia’s network at EUR8.68 (USD11.01). A final decision is expected by the end of this month.

Separately, the CEO of mobile and fixed line operator Vodafone Italy, Aldo Bisio, has said that conditions are not right at the moment for the company to acquire fibre-optic broadband provider FastWeb, Reuters reports. FastWeb’s owner Swisscom is looking to sell off its Italian internet unit for a potential EUR5 billion (USD6.3 billion), with Vodafone expected to be among the most likely bidders.
