Algerian cellco Orascom Telecom Algeria (OTA), which operates under the Djezzy brand, has selected French equipment vendor Alcatel-Lucent to deploy its 9500 Microwave Packet Radio (MPR) solution. The system will upgrade Djezzy’s mobile backhaul architecture in four (out of six) zones – covering around 67% of Djezzy GSM’s network – by providing ‘a path to 10Gbps capacity between microwave towers’.

Djezzy’s CEO Philip Tohme said: ‘Our customers are demanding ultra-broadband connectivity. By increasing the capacity of microwave transmission Alcatel-Lucent’s solution will enable us to offer our customers services at a top-notch quality.’
