The United Arab Emirates (UAE) fixed line and wireless operator Du has completed the first voice-over-Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) call in a commercial network in the Middle East. Working with Nokia Networks, the telco says it has connected high definition (HD) voice calls while simultaneously accessing 4G data services over its LTE network. Nokia says the integration of VoLTE technology into Du’s multi-vendor network was carried out in 80 days. Saleem Al Balooshi, Executive Vice President of Network Development and Operations at Du, commented: ‘… we will soon be able to provide HD multimedia services including browser-based apps for video conferencing, chat, file sharing and other services for our customers’.
