Six companies to vie for 4G spectrum in Israel’s upcoming auction

3 Oct 2014

A total of six companies have thrown their hats in to the ring with regard to Israel’s upcoming 4G spectrum tender, Globes Online reports. All five of the nation’s existing mobile network operators have reportedly submitted registration forms for the sale process, those being: Cellcom, Partner Communications, Pelepehone, Golan Telecom and HOT Mobile. Meanwhile, the final would-be bidder is understood to be 018 Xphone, which currently operates in the both the internet and international calls sector. The participation of Xphone in the auction is expected to raise prices above what they might have otherwise been, the report notes. Meanwhile, despite previous suggestions that mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) YouPhone could also take part in the tender, it opted against doing so, having argued that the tender terms were discriminatory and did not allow a new player such as itself to compete on fair terms.
