Panama records increased number porting requests in H1 2014

Both mobile and fixed number portability (MNP/FNP) proved more popular for Panamanian subscribers in the first half of 2014, according to new data published by sector regulator the Autoridad Nacional de los Servicios Publicos (ASEP). According to the watchdog, in the six months to end-June 2014 a total of 67,030 mobile numbers were ported from one provider to another, representing a 37.4% year-on-year increase. In terms of monthly figures, April 2014 proved to be the busiest month, will 11,364 mobile subscribers switching operator and taking their number with them. Meanwhile, although the country saw significantly fewer FNP requests compared to those for mobile numbers, the 3,439 numbers that were ported represented a 30.5% increase from 2,636 in the first half of 2013.
