T-Mobile US extends Nokia partnership to encompass LTE-A

T-Mobile US has enlisted Finnish vendor Nokia Networks to provide it with Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) equipment and support its deployment of 4G technology using the 700MHz and 1900MHz bands. T-Mobile’s LTE solution is comprised of Nokia Networks’ Flexi Multiradio10 Base Station platform for 700MHz radio sites and its GSM/LTE radiofrequency (RF) sharing solution for 1900MHz sites. Additionally, as part of the agreement, Nokia Networks is providing LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation (CA) for all T-Mobile spectrum bands.

The vendor notes that it has deployed 4×2 and 4×4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-capable radio technology in T-Mobile’s LTE base stations since 2012. This functionality can be remotely configured and activated, giving advanced capacity and data throughput. Currently, T-Mobile is enabling 4×2 MIMO.
