Latvia’s largest wireless operator by subscribers, Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT), continues to expand its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, with its number of LTE base transceiver stations (BTS) now standing at 500, Telecompaper reports. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database shows that LMT launched 4G LTE services in May 2011, and had expanded its LTE coverage to 50% of the country’s population by April 2014, at that date increasing its BTS total to 393. The latest installations now see the Latvian capital, Riga, having the largest number of stations at 199 whilst the regions of Vidzeme, Zemgale, Latgale and Kurzeme have 101, 88, 60 and 52 respectively.
