26 Sep 2014

Huawei and Polish cellco Polkomtel, which offers services under the Plus brand, have completed a ‘friendly user test’ of Voice-over-Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) technology for the first time in Poland, the Chinese vendor announced today. The test used Polkomtel’s commercial LTE network and Huawei’s Ascend P7 smartphone and included trials of eSRVCC (extended Single Radio Voice Call Continuity) functionality to ensure call continuity when moving between 2G, 3G and 4G coverage areas. Commenting on the test Polkomtel’s CTO, Jacek Felczykowski said in a statement: ‘Two weeks ago, as the first company in Poland and one of the first companies worldwide, we carried out video broadcast via mobile networks in LTE Broadcast (eMBMS) technology. Now we are finalising the successful trial of VoLTE. We hope that thanks to our work Plus will increase its competitive advantage over its direct competitors.’
