Local firms close in on MVNO Debitel; Telekom Slovenije favourite

26 Sep 2014

Slovenian mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) Debitel, which operates over the network of Telekom Slovenije’s cellular arm Mobitel, has attracted interest from potential buyers in the country including the network host, with a binding offer expected by the end of October, news website Delo.si reports. Earlier, another local news site Finance.si reported that Debitel Slovenia was aiming to find a buyer ahead of a 20 November deadline for signing an agreement with banks on financial restructuring, adding that, alongside Telekom Slovenije, another potential – albeit less likely – buyer is Si.Mobil, Slovenia’s second largest cellco by subscribers (owned by Telekom Austria). TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database says that Slovenian conglomerate ACH and its affiliate Adria Mobil put Debitel up for sale in June 2014, hoping to raise EUR10 million (USD12.75 million) from the sale of their combined 96% interest in the MVNO.
