Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) has refuted reports circulating in Pakistan that its local subsidiary, Worldcall Telecom, is experiencing difficulties, the Times of Oman reports. Omantel claims that the company is providing services as usual, although it acknowledged that the telco is involved in a dispute with the regulator, the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA). The watchdog issued a determination order last week to temporarily suspend Worldcall’s wireless in the local loop (WiLL) licence, but Worldcall successfully appealed against the decision and the Lahore High Court issued a stay order on the suspension. PTA issued the order on the basis that Worldcall had failed to pay outstanding spectrum fees for 2011 and 2012, totalling around PKR69.1 million (USD667,310). Omantel added that the management of Worldcall Telecom is working with the PTA to resolve the issue.
