Chorus loses appeal against UBA price cut

8 Sep 2014

New Zealand’s Commerce Commission says it has welcomed a judgement by the country’s Court of Appeal which has quashed a legal challenge by telecoms network owner Chorus over the pricing for the unbundled bitstream access (UBA) service. Chorus had appealed against an April 2014 High Court decision which had backed the Commission’s move to reduce the cost of the UBA service from NZD21.46 (USD17.85) to NZD10.92 per month. The price reduction is based on a benchmarked cost-based model and will take effect from 1 December 2014.
