Incumbent Myanmar Post and Telecommunications (MPT) has increased pressure on newcomer Ooredoo Myanmar with the launch of its own low-priced SIMs, highlighting criticism faced by the Qatari-backed cellco over its prices. Eleven Myanmar writes that demand for Ooredoo’s SIMs has fallen since MPT launched its MMK1,500 (USD1.52) SIM on 1 September. The new entrant has been criticised on its pricing structure, particular its per-minute billing and data charges. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, Ooredoo currently offers pre-paid services only, and has yet to decide if and when it will introduce post-paid offerings.
