PM Key announces NZD210m UFB extension; coverage could increase from 75% to 80%

4 Sep 2014

Small townships such as Kawerau, Foxton, Westport and Cromwell could yet witness connectivity to New Zealand’s ongoing Ultra Fast Broadband (UFB) initiative, the New Zealand Herald reports, under a new National Party proposal to contribute an extra NZD210 million (USD174.6 million) towards extending the current programme. Prime Minister John Key made the announcement today during a visit to the Waikato Institute of Technology. Currently the UFB initiative aims to connect 75% of all New Zealanders by the end of 2019; today’s proposal would push that commitment to 80%, reaching an extra 200,000 New Zealanders.
