Just 2% of active users fail to register SIM details in UAE

26 Aug 2014

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has revealed that just 2% of all active GSM mobile users in the country had failed to register their details under the two-year SIM registration project which ended last month. A report from Emirates 24/7 cites the watchdog as saying that it expects the remaining unregistered users to have their details checked in the coming days. Around 6.8 million inactive accounts were deleted during the ‘My Number, My Identity’ campaign, although these figures have not been reflected as losses in operator statistics, as for some time cellcos Etisalat and Du have only reported their active subscriber bases. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the UAE was home to 16.47 million active mobile users at the end of March 2014.
