SingTel Mobile responds to customer demand for more data with Wi-Fi-integrated mobile plans

13 Aug 2014

SingTel Mobile has launched a range of mobile data plans that are fully integrated with a new premium high speed Wi-Fi network that it is rolling out at crowded locations and underground MRT (metro) stations. The cellco’s Combo tariff plans are designed to meet ever-increasing consumer demand for data by offering Wi-Fi connectivity in addition to its 4G data bundles. In the promotion phase, SingTel Mobile users will enjoy unlimited Wi-Fi usage until 31 July 2015, after which Combo plans will come with a 2GB Wi-Fi download cap. Combo plan customers will be able to switch automatically between the 3G, 4G and SingTel Wi-Fi networks without a manual password login. To ensure that customers always enjoy a high speed and seamless experience, SingTel has permanently waived the 4G value added service (VAS) subscription charges. New plans typically cost SGD3 (USD2.4) more per month and come with more bundled talk time and SMS.

Currently, SingTel has 100 hotspots in about 15 locations, including Raffles City, Junction 8 and Plaza Singapura. The operator is promising a total of more than 1,000 hotspots by March next year, and more than 1,700 by March 2016, to augment – not replace – its 4G coverage. SingTel says its Wi-Fi speeds will be between 4Mbps to 10Mbps, which is faster than the 2Mbps speeds offered by the free Wireless@SG Wi-Fi service.
