Ooredoo Maldives, the country’s second largest mobile operator by subscribers, has expanded its 4G LTE network to the island of Maafushi. The company unveiled its 4G network in April 2013 at the ICT Connect Expo, with the first mobile broadband package launched two months later as part of the ‘Wataniya for Business’ portfolio for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Commercial LTE services for mobile handset users followed in early December 2013, offering maximum downstream speeds of up to 100Mbps. The company’s ‘4G Postpaid Platinum’ package comes with a data allowance of 6GB and 5,000 minutes and 2,000 SMS for MVR999 (USD63.8) per month. For mobile broadband users, the ‘Jumbo Data’ tariffs range in price from MVR999 for a data volume of 20GB to MVR5,499 per month for 200GB.
