Virgin Media has announced what it has called ‘the largest, single expansion of its network’ since it launched in 2007. As per the cableco’s plans, around 100,000 premises across East London will gain access to its network, with locations selected due to their proximity to Virgin Media’s existing infrastructure. According to the operator, work is already underway on connecting properties in the Bethnal Green, Isle of Dogs, Newham and West Ham areas, while network rollout in Stratford, Poplar, Stepney, Bow and East Ham will come later.
Commenting on the expansion plans, Virgin Media’s chief executive officer Tom Mockridge noted: ‘Extending our network into East London means 100,000 more homes will benefit from the UK’s fastest most widely available broadband for the first time … This is a significant investment for Virgin Media and our largest, single network expansion project to date.’
