Spanish-backed cellco Movistar Colombia has rolled out its Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to 74 cities, covering 73% of the population in municipal capitals. The level of coverage exceeds the target of 16 municipalities that Movistar was due to cover by end-July, and comes close to the coverage requirements set by the Ministry of Information Technology and Communication (MinTIC) which stipulates that the operator should offer services in 58 department and municipal capitals within a year of launch. Under the same coverage obligations, Movistar must roll out LTE to 313 municipalities by 2018.
