Hutchison Whampoa reports that as of 30 June 2014, its Hutchison Asia Telecommunications (HAT) division had approximately 46.5 million active mobile customers across Indonesia, Vietnam and Sri Lanka, a 7% increase from 31 December 2013. Reported total revenue of HKD3.506 billion (USD452 million) for the first six months of 2014 was an increase of 18% compared to the same period last year, reflecting a rise in customers in Indonesia as a result of the completion of a major network rollout in the third quarter of 2013 and an increased average spend per user in Vietnam. HAT’s EBITDA of HKD502 million in the first half of 2014 is a turnaround from an EBITDA loss of HKD59 million in the year-ago period, driven by revenue growth in Indonesia and Vietnam. EBIT loss of HKD76 million in the first half of 2014 was an 89% improvement year-on-year. HAT reported that it will continue its main focus of growing its customer base and service revenues in Indonesia.
