Vodafone Qatar, backed by the UK’s Vodafone Group, has posted a net loss of QAR27.4 million (USD7.52 million) in the three months ended 30 June 2014, an improvement on the net loss of QAR84.9 million posted in the same period a year earlier, as the mobile and fibre broadband network operator grew its quarterly revenues by 27% year-on-year to QAR585 million. Quarterly EBITDA reached QAR159 million, an increase of 61% year-on-year. Mobile ARPU improved in the three-month period (Vodafone’s fiscal Q1) to QAR131 compared to QAR123 in April-June 2013, while total cellular customers increased by 18% y-o-y to 1.354 million at mid-2014. The company’s statement added: ‘This quarter also saw a significant milestone for the company with the launch of Vodafone 4G … Over the next few months, we will be expanding our 4G network to cover more of [Qatari capital] Doha focusing on indoor coverage as well as outside Doha especially the camping areas.’
