Bulgarian operators plan to invest BGN624m in network upgrades in 2014

Bulgarian telcos are planning to invest a total of BGN624 million (USD431.84 million) in their respective networks in 2014, the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) has revealed its annual report for 2013. According to the document, the combined planned investment represents a 19% increase year-on-year on the BGN524 million spent on deployments and/or upgrades in the twelve months to end-2013. The regulator has revealed that a total of 410 companies have disclosed plans to invest in upgrades during 2014.

Meanwhile, following the introduction of a new indicator by the CRC in 2013 – investment in next generation access (NGA) networks – the watchdog disclosed that 62 companies took steps to upgrade their infrastructure to NGA in 2013, investing a total of BGN86 million; further, 63 operators plan to invest BGN88 million in NGA infrastructure by end-2014.
