Ukrainian incumbent Ukrtelecom and its sister/partner company Oll.tv – part of conglomerate SCM’s Media Group Ukraine division – have jointly launched commercial IPTV services under the brand ‘Interactive TV’ to Ukrtelecom’s fixed broadband customers in 13 regions, using the IPTV licences held by Oll.tv (registered as Digital Screens). Ukrtelecom announced on its website that Interactive TV is initially available in 175 locations in the regions of: Kyiv, Odessa, Vinnytsia, Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Transcarpathian, Zaporozhye, Ivano-Frankivsk, Sumy, Ternopil, Kharkiv and Kherson, and offers three package options with between 79 and 136 TV channels (including twelve HD channels) costing between UAH39 and UAH159 (USD3.26-USD13.29) per month. Video-on-demand (VoD) content featuring 10,000 films, TV series and shows is also included, while other IPTV features include: the ability to view previous live TV programmes (for a period determined on the chosen tariff plan); pausing live TV; interactive TV guide; parental controls; subtitles and audio tracks in multiple languages; and ‘favourites’ selections. Subject to signing a 24-month contract, activation fee is UAH1 and the IPTV set top box costs UAH1.20.
As reported in February by CommsUpdate, Ukraine’s National Council for Television & Radio Broadcasting granted IPTV licences (initially in seven regions) to Oll.tv, allowing the digital services provider to develop the partnership with Ukrtelecom which had already seen the SCM-owned pair launch joint-branded over-the-top (OTT) video services the previous year, with OTT streaming channel services via the Ogo.oll.tv web portal accessible via computers, tablets, smart TVs or TVs with a specialised set-top box.
