ForthNet competing with OTE to be universal service provider

17 Jul 2014

Greece’s National Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) has announced on its website that it has completed the call for expressions of interest in the provision of universal telecoms services, revealing that alternative fixed network operator ForthNet has come forward as a viable applicant in competition with incumbent telco OTE to be selected as a universal service provider of fixed telephony local network access and voice call services. OTE, which is the current designated universal service provider, was the sole applicant for public payphone access, while it faces competition from one other company for the provision of telephone directory services.

Alongside the universal service announcement, the EETT also reported the publication in the Official Gazette of a revised edition of Greece’s Terms of Use of Frequencies Bands (1713/B/26-6-2014), available via the regulator’s website.
