US private-equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co (KKR) is considering the sale of German telecoms company Versatel, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar with the matter. Versatel’s services are available in twelve of the 16 German states and over 230 cities, including 33 of the largest 50, while its fibre-optic network spans around 53,000km. According to one of the sources, Versatel’s private and wholesale telecom operations could attract the likes of Vodafone Group, Telefonica or United Internet (1&1), which already owns 25% of Versatel.
