Mobilink 3G launch delayed

30 Jun 2014

Mobilink, Pakistan’s largest cellco by subscribers, has been denied permission to launch commercial 3G services due to concerns that it is not satisfying quality of service (QoS) standards, the Daily Times writes. The paper cites reliable industry sources as saying that the provider is experiencing technical difficulties with regard to its 3G service and, compounding the problems, Mobilink reportedly temporarily shut down its customer service call centres in Islamabad and Karachi on Thursday, although no reason was given for their closure. However, Mobilink officials have denied that the cellco is facing any restrictions from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) regarding the commercial launch of its 3G service, and claimed that help lines were fully operational throughout Thursday and Friday. As reported by CommsUpdate earlier this month, Mobilink extended its free trial of 3G services in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Quetta, Multan and Peshawar, after it missed its self-imposed commercial launch date of mid-June 2014.
