Australia’s Vocus looking at NZ backbone buy

30 Jun 2014

The Australian internet service provider Vocus is rumoured to be considering the acquisition of New Zealand backbone network operator FX Networks, with local news portal iTnews reporting that a deal is ‘imminent’. FX Networks is valued at over NZD100 million (USD86 million) and operates around 4,000km of fibre infrastructure across New Zealand. Vocus is already present in the New Zealand internet market, having acquired local internet service provider (ISP) Maxnet and its Auckland data centre two years ago for just under NZD10 million.
