JT completes fibre network upgrade to guarantee 50Mbps downlink speeds

27 Jun 2014

Jersey’s fixed line incumbent JT Jersey (formerly Jersey Telecom) has announced that 8,479 fibre broadband customers have had their service upgraded ahead of schedule. With the telco saying it had completed the current phase of improvements to the island’s broadband services, it noted that work involved improving download speeds for all those connected via fibre to a guaranteed 50Mbps downstream.

Commenting on the completion of the upgrade project, JT’s Head of Commercial Development, Dominic Vye said: ‘We are really pleased that our fibre broadband customers in Jersey can now enjoy an even quicker service. We have delivered this upgrade to the network on budget and ahead of schedule, and I would like to thank the JT team who have achieved that … Our customers told us they wanted a smaller, and simpler, range of products, and better ‘entry-level’ broadband speeds, and that is exactly what we are now able to deliver. To put it in context, we have seen the average data downloads quadruple in just 18 months alone.’

Meanwhile, alongside announcing the network upgrade, JT Jersey noted that 33% of its customers have now been switched across to its fibre infrastructure, while it confirmed it is aiming to have all subscribers migrated before the end of 2016.
