Hong Kong-based satellite provider SpeedCast has announced the acquisition of Australia’s Oceanic Broadband, an integrator and solutions provider that specialises in providing end-to-end wireless and satellite services to Pacific island nations. The takeover is designed to strengthen SpeedCast’s dominant position in the Australasia region. According to SpeedCast, the two companies already work as partners in a number of markets, particularly Papua New Guinea, which also accounts for the majority of Oceanic’s business.

Oceanic Broadband owns and operates three iDirect VSAT hubs, which utilise the Asiasat 4 and New Skies 9 C-band satellites over South East Asia and the Pacific. As such, the company offers coverage of: Indonesia, China, Mongolia, Myanmar, Brunei, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, Niue, the Federated States of Micronesia and Kiribati.
