Armenian cellcos’ mobile internet subs top 1.56m in Q1

The total number of mobile internet subscribers in Armenia exceeded 1.568 million at the end of March 2014, up a net 24,431 subscriptions from the start of the year, as overall cellular penetration soared to 110% or more than 3.7 million, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database. The biggest player in terms of mobile internet users at the end of the first quarter is VivaCell-MTS, owned by Russia’s Mobile TeleSystems, which closed out March with 1.003 million subscribers thanks to net gains of 9,366 in the three-month period. Second spot in the mobile internet segment belongs to Vimpelcom-backed ArmenTel (Beeline) with 299,862 (+3,581), while French-owned Orange Armenia brought up the rear with 266,050, thanks to the addition of 11,484 net new mobile internet users in January-March.
