Elisa trials LTE-A in Estonia

11 Jun 2014

The Estonian fixed line and cellular operator Elisa has demonstrated 4G Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTE-A) technology, with the trials in the capital Tallinn giving peak theoretical download speeds of 300Mbps and real-world speeds of around 30Mbps. The demonstration was carried out in conjunction with Chinese equipment vendor Huawei using spectrum in the 1800MHz and 2600MHz bands. Elisa expects to begin LTE-A upgrades in Tallinn later this year. The operator launched its first 800MHz LTE service back in April 2012, going on to add 1800MHz and 2600MHz services early the following year; the combined networks now offer 4G coverage to over 97% of Estonia’s population, TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database shows.
