Abou Lo, former director general of Senegal’s telecoms regulator the Autorite de Regulation des Telecommunications et des Postes (ARTP), has confirmed that the country is still on course to launch mobile number portability (MNP) as early as October. In an interview, the former ARTP official said he recently signed an edict on MNP guidelines in Senegal, including the process of selecting the firm to manage the running of the single platform for it. Lo’s statement is in line with a similar announcement in October last year in which the watchdog confirmed it was conducting a public consultation on a number portability regime, to help achieve an October 2014 launch.
