Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) has signed an agreement with T-Mobile US to allow it to operate in the United States as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), it has been revealed. Via its PLDT Global arm, the telco will target the roughly 3.5 million Filipinos living and working in the US.
According to Alex Caeg, PLDT Global president and chief executive officer, the MVNO will be launched later this month to coincide with the celebration of Philippine Independence Day (12 June). The virtual network is expected to go live in five cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu, San Diego and Las Vegas.
Going forward, Caeg says that PLDT Global also hopes to seal an MVNO deal in Canada next month. The company currently operates as an MVNO in Macau, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Guam, Taiwan, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
