RomTelecom begins IP upgrade project

20 May 2014

RomTelecom has begun the deployment of Romania’s first 100G all-IP network based on Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) transport technology from equipment supplier ADVA, and IP/MPLS (IP Multi Protocol Label Switching) gear from Cisco. The operator announced its IP core network upgrade project last year as it looks to enable its networks for next-generation cloud-based services, and this year it will connect three of its main national network nodes via 100G technology, ahead of completion of the IP core upgrade set for 2015. The project is part of a wider end-to-end network transition under which RomTelecom says that its entire infrastructure will be all-IP by the end of 2018.
