Hi3G Denmark scraps data roaming charges in six countries

20 May 2014

Danish cellco Hi3G has announced that it will scrap data roaming charges for broadband users travelling to several destinations within and outside the European Union (EU), under its initiative ‘3LikeHome’. According to a press release, from 19 May Hi3G’s data card subscribers travelling to Sweden, England, Ireland, Austria, Italy and Hong Kong could access the web using their PC or tablet at the same price as in Denmark, on any network in those countries. Hi3G business and residential customers can use the amount of data that is included in their subscription abroad, with a maximum data allowance of up to 20GB per month; the threshold is not applicable in Sweden. The operator noted, however, that the maximum download speed available to subscribers over non-Hi3G networks in the aforementioned countries is 512kbps. Hi3G Denmark’s CEO Morten Christiansen said: ‘I am confident that our customers will see it as a huge plus that they can also use their tablet and PC in the six selected countries without having to worry about an additional expense.’

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in March 2014 Hi3G waived roaming charges for smartphone users under the ‘3LikeHome’ initiative. Hi3G’s subscribers travelling to Sweden, England, Ireland, Austria, Italy and Hong Kong could make voice calls, use the web and send text messages at the same price as in Denmark, on any network in those countries. Since 17 March 3LikeHome is included in every retail subscription that provides unlimited voice calls as well as a number of business subscriptions with inclusive calls.
