Brazilian regional fixed and mobile operator Sercomtel has announced a net loss of BRL60.4 million (USD27.3 million) for the twelve months to 31 December 2013, noting that the loss was smaller than those recorded in previous years. Sercomtel added a net 20,000 or so new subscribers to its base last year, helping to drive a 6% year-on-year rise in revenue to BRL192.9 million. Growth has also been helped by recent service expansions to the cities of Santo Antonio da Platina, Cascavel, Pato Branco and 15 other cities near Maringa and Ponta Grossa. In its guidance for the full year, the state-owned operator is confident for a ‘positive’ 2014, noting too a small profit of BRL1.1 million for January-March.
