French conglomerate Bouygues Group has announced its financial results for the first quarter ended 31 March 2014, reporting a 3% increase year-on-year in consolidated revenues to EUR6.841 billion (USD9.38 billion) from EUR6.645 billion reported in Q1 2013. Bouygues’ net profit attributable to the group amounted to EUR285 million and included two exceptional items: non-current operating income of EUR196 million related to its telecoms arm Bouygues Telecom and EUR240 million net capital gain on the sale of Colas’ stake in Cofiroute. Excluding exceptional items, the group would have reported net loss of EUR56 million. Revenues generated by Bouygues Telecom amounted to EUR1.085 billion, a 5% decline on the EUR1.148 billion reported in end-March 2013. In the period under review, Bouygues Telecom’s EBITDA also decreased, by 23% y-o-y to EUR163 million.
In operational terms, Bouygues Telecom reported a total of 11.064 million mobile subscribers at 31 March 2014, down by 79,000 over twelve months due to the price war in the market, while its no-frills offer gained 126,000 net additions over the three months to reach a total of 1.876 million subscribers by 31 March. Subscribers to Bouygues’ fixed broadband offerings also increased, by 100,000 new users in the period under review, reaching a total of 2.113 million in 1Q14.
