Telstra notches download speeds of 450Mbps in LTE-A Carrier Aggregation test

Telstra has confirmed that it achieved downlink transmission speeds of 450Mbps using Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) technology, a feat it claims is the ‘world’s first’ such trial. The test, which was carried out in association with network partner Ericsson, saw the carrier deploy a Carrier Aggregation (CA) solution using combined spectrum in the 1800MHz and 2600MHz bands. Telstra utilised two new 20MHz Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) channels in the 2600MHz spectrum band, aggregated with its existing 20MHz spectrum allowance in the 1800MHz band. The result was three simultaneous side-by-side paths for the data to travel through to the operational core network.
