German telecoms company Deutsche Telekom, which provides fixed and mobile services under the brand Telekom Deutschland (TD), has announced that the number of cooperation agreements signed with local municipalities under its ‘Mehr Breitband fur Deutschland’ (MBfD) initiative has now reached 5,000. The landmark agreement was signed with the Bavarian municipality of Fraunberg and will see high speed broadband internet rolled out in the village of Maria Thalheim, home to around 600 inhabitants. Under the MBfD initiative, Deutsche Telekom cooperates with local authorities for the expansion of broadband services to rural communities where network deployment would not be cost effective. According to the company, around two million households have so far benefited from the scheme.
