Telenor Hungary breaks one million mobile internet subscribers barrier

12 May 2014

Telenor Hungary reported 1.022 million ‘Hipernet’ mobile internet customers at end-March 2014, up from 756,000 in Q1 2013 representing a 35% year-on-year growth, while the total user base stood at 3.469 million, down from 3.560 million a year earlier, despite an increase in the share of post-paid subscriptions on its books. Total revenues stood at NOK996 million (USD168.6 million) for the three-month period under review, up from NOK930 million in 1Q13, although earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) was negatively influenced by higher telecom taxes, and as a result only increased marginally by NOK5 million to NOK349 million. Operating income also deteriorated in January-March compared to the previous year, from NOK256 million to NOK238 million, impacted by the EBITDA change and higher depreciation costs.
