Singapore’s M1 unveils new 10Gbps enterprise broadband fibre service

6 May 2014

Singaporean fixed and mobile operator M1 Limited (M1) yesterday (5 May) announced the launch of a new 10Gbps fibre broadband service – its fastest service yet – targeting the city-state’s enterprise segment. The new offer is aimed at corporate users with very high bandwidth demand such as data centres, financial institutions and cloud service providers. Commenting on the 10Gbps service launch. M1’s director for product development and enterprises services, Mr Willis Sim said: ‘A reliable high speed broadband connection is critical in today’s highly-networked world, enabling enterprises to do real-time backup of important business data as well as for their business continuity and disaster recovery purposes. Our 10Gbps service is designed to meet these demanding requirements, with dedicated bandwidth, technical support and service level agreements.’

Alongside what is currently Singapore’s fastest fibre broadband service, M1 is also introducing a competitively-priced 1Gbps service for SMEs. ‘M1’s 1Gbps service will deliver a significant increase in access speed to our SME customers, at the same price as their legacy connectivity service,’ Sim noted. Both services are available immediately, nationwide, it said in a statement.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, M1 reported a 2.1% year-on-year increase in service revenue to SGD203.9 million (USD162.9 million) for the three months ended 31 March 2014, attributed to growth in mobile data usage and increased subscriber numbers. The company said that non-voice revenue climbed by 5.6 percentage points y-o-y in the period under review, to account for 45.1% of service revenue in January-March 2014. Net profit increased 4.4% over the same period to SGD42.8 million; free cash flow for the quarter was SGD41.3 million. Operationally speaking, the carrier closed out March with a total of 2.104 million mobile users, up 2.9% on an annualised basis. It reported that post-paid churn was ‘stable’ at 1.1%.
