6 May 2014

Mexico’s Alestra claims to have become the first telco in Latin America to have expanded the data transmission capacity of its broadband network to 400Gbps, using hardware provided by French-US vendor Alcatel-Lucent. Having deployed Alca-Lu’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch, the telco claims the technology allows it to offer ‘unparalleled capacity’, and has said its network can now carry the equivalent of six million telephone calls and 50,000 high-definition videos simultaneously.
