Cellcos offer phone swap to encourage 3G expansion

30 Apr 2014

Mobilink and Pakistan Telecommunications Mobile Ltd (PTML), which offers services under the Ufone brand, have launched phone exchange programmes in order to aid the uptake of high speed data services when their 3G networks are activated later this year. Pro Pakistani writes that both cellcos are now offering to swap customers’ old handsets for new 3G-enabled smartphones, although the subscriber is still required to pay the difference in cost. Mobilink is running the scheme on a trial basis in Islamabad but plans to extend the programme to all major cities at a later date. Ufone meanwhile is offering the service in Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore.
