MTel and Ericsson demonstrate LTE-A technology; a first for Hungary

Hungary’s dominant telecoms service provider Magyar Telekom (MTel) and Sweden-based equipment manufacturer Ericsson have carried out a demonstration of 4G Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) carrier aggregation technology in Hungary – a first for the country. The tests were conducted at the carrier’s headquarters using spectrum in the 1800MHz and 2600MHz bands, and achieved peak download speeds of 250Mbps, Ericsson said. MTel owns and operates cellular services in the country through its 100% owned T-Mobile Hungary unit.

Commenting on the test, Chris Mattheisen CEO, MTel said: ‘We are really happy that we are the first operator in Hungary to demonstrate LTE-A technology together with our technology partner Ericsson. We believe that 4G/LTE technology and its next generations are the key elements of the digital development of Europe and of Hungary. With this demonstration we are well on the way to launching the most advanced mobile network in Hungary.’
