Altel contracts Huawei for 4G platform

22 Apr 2014

Altel Communications has reportedly inked a deal with Chinese vendor Huawei Technologies for the installation and commissioning of its 4G infrastructure, which will be rolled out alongside that of its partner Celcom Axiata. According to the Sun Daily, under the terms of the deal with Huawei, the vendor will provide Altel with wireless, core, transport and billing services, as well as business consultation service to help the company develop new competitive mobile services. Altel, which is a subsidiary of Puncak Semangat, was one of the eight companies to have secured LTE-suitable spectrum in the 2600MHz band last year. Commenting on its network deployment plans, Altel CEO Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Yaacob was cited as saying: ‘We understand that rolling out a 4G network is not an overnight task. As such, we will be building our own radio network and leverage on Celcom’s widest and fastest network in Malaysia as well as continuously invest over the next five years.’
